THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR

Much of what actually occurred during the American Civil War, and the real reason it began, is not known by the general public. As such, presentations on the American Civil War by members of the American Civil War Round Table of Queensland, Inc. can include any of the following topics; and is backed up by archival documentation.

The Civil War and why it occurred: Not over slavery, but over states rights and unjustified taxation of southern planters.

Union Slave States; Owners and Traders: In spite of what has been written, there were no “Free States” in the north, free of slavery. Slavery began in the Northern states and existed there longer than in Southern states; even after the war ended.

Union Atrocities: Documented accounts of unspeakable massacres, rapes and genocide of the southern population by Union officers and soldiers.

Confederate Partisan Rangers: America’s first hit and run guerrilla fighters, an official branch of the Confederate States Army.

Union Prisons of the Civil War: In spite of all that has been written about “Andersonville”, the infamous Confederate prison, the Union had prisons far worse in which thousands of Confederate and civilian prisoners were starved to death, tortured and murdered; simply to exterminate them.

Civil War Battles in Florida: Historical narratives on numerous battles that occurred in the southernmost state; the only southern state whose state capital was never taken by the Union, and where the Union faced one of its most disastrous defeats.

Sam Davis; A Confederate Hero: The capture and murder of a young Confederate scout that brought tears to the eyes of his Union captors.

Australia’s Forgotten Veterans: The burials of Australians who participated in the American Civil War and are buried throughout Australia and America; whose memories and valor have been swept aside and forgotten by the Australian Government and the public.

ADDITIONAL TOPICS:

The Seminole Indian War: The three wars between settlers and the Seminole Indian Nation in Florida; prior to the Civil War

Historical Site Mapping: Techniques developed by the Florida Historical Research Foundation which were approved by the Florida State Department of Archives and History for shallow archaeological recovery of historic artifacts, and the mapping of the finds.
